Components to Consider When Installing a New Long Block Engine
May 19, 2026
Here are some critical components to inspect or replace when installing a new long block engine to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Key areas for consideration include:
- IFS Fuel System Problems within the solenoids, fuel pump, or fuel pressure delivery can often mimic symptoms of a failing engine block. It is essential to check these components to avoid misdiagnosing the root cause of engine issues.
- EGR Cooler Located under the exhaust manifold, these coolers are prone to coolant leaks and internal carbon buildup. Replacing this rather than reusing the old part helps protect the new engine's service life.
- Turbochargers High-mileage turbos pose a significant risk. A failing turbo can drop metal shavings into the engine or leak oil into the exhaust system, which may also damage your DPF system and negatively impact the lifespan of your new long block.
In our video below our parts specialist Shaun Adams explains how failing to address surrounding parts can lead to premature wear or damage to your new engine.
